Should he be called Sir Stanley here?

[edit]

Baker died before he could be knighted at Buckingham Palace, so technically he isn't Sir Stanley Baker. (92.7.10.192 (talk) 14:13, 26 October 2012 (UTC))[reply]

I very strongly question this. It has long been the case that once a knighthood is announced, the recipient is entitled to assume the title Sir immediately. That is, from the date of the announcement. The formal investiture does not make them any more of a knight than they already were, and there've been numerous cases where the recipient was too ill to attend an investiture but their knighthood was not affected.
Were this not the case, why is Henry Cotton (golfer) called "Sir Henry Cotton"? So far from not making it to the investiture, he didn't even make it to the announcement as he was dead by then; but because he'd accepted the honour before his death, it was made effective from his date of death and it is no sense a posthumous award.
I'm quite sure Stanley Baker had accepted his knighthood before his death - because otherwise it would never have been announced in the first place. So, why isn't he "Sir Stanley Baker"? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 05:41, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography

I note Lilli Marlene is listed twice, against 1950 & 1951 and both link to same page. That page says 1950 but I didn't feelconfident enoughto make the change. 80.194.161.133 (talk) 15:06, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good call. I've deleted the incorrect dulpicate. FruitMonkey (talk) 18:04, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
